Telegraph Sport understands that Inter held talks with Chelsea’s new co-owner Todd Boehly for the first time on Wednesday, with representatives of Lukaku also present on the call. None of the parties have commented, but it is believed that the talks were positive and there is willingness on all sides to reach an agreement that suits all parties following the first round of discussions. Lukaku is aware that he will have to take a wage cut to help facilitate his return on loan, while Chelsea may also have to cover part of the striker’s salary which is currently worth £325,000-a-week and there remain hurdles to overcome. Inter's opening proposal to pay a £4million loan fee was rejected and a second offer is now anticipated. Further talks will now centre on the exact terms of a loan fee, the 29-year-old’s wages and whether or not Inter will allow any players to move in the opposite direction as part of Lukaku’s return to Serie A. Reports in Italy have claimed Chelsea are interested in right-back Denzel Dumfries. While a deal for Lukaku may not be officially concluded by the end of the week, Chelsea and Inter are keen to agree on the terms of the move by then with the aim of completing it as quickly as possible. Since taking control of the club alongside Clearlake Capital, Boehly has been convinced that allowing Lukaku, who cost Chelsea a club record £97.5million last summer, to return to Inter represents the best course of action. Lukaku’s standing among Chelsea’s fans nosedived after the controversial interview he gave in December, which questioned head coach Thomas Tuchel’s tactics, and he gradually dropped behind Kai Havertz in the German’s pecking order. Tuchel is understood to be in agreement over Lukaku’s proposed departure and allowing the player, who scored 15 goals last season, to leave will help Chelsea focus their attention on the attackers the club want to sign. Tuchel has been promised that he will lead the club’s transfer business this summer and Chelsea face the task of trying to add goals and assists to his squad...
